Which Tires Do I Need to Chain Up?

Pro Tip: Proper tire chain installation is important for the sake of adhering to state law and also for proper fit and function of the traction product on your specific vehicle.

For passenger cars, light trucks, SUVs, etc., please consult your owner’s manual or dealership for information regarding the use of tire chains on your specific vehicle. Due to the variances in traction control, AWD, SAE clearances, etc., it is very crucial that you install them in accordance to the manufacturer’s direction. We do not offer information regarding which tires to chain up for passenger vehicles, light trucks and/or SUVs due to the above factors.

For commercial trucks, there are state laws that dictate which tires you are required to chain up. These laws vary by state so we recommend that you consult your state’s Department of Transportation (DOT) for information regarding tire chain laws and regulations in your state.

Below we have a basic chaining diagram for commercial trucks.
